This is an experimental blog written by students of OS Medvode, year 9. Every English lesson in the school year 2011/2012 will be described by two different pupils (one from the 3rd and one from the 2nd level group) in order to practice writing skills and have a better overview of what is going on in class. All non-offensive comments regarding the posts' content and this blog's concept are welcome.

Now I will write something about learning tips we know many learning tips I will describe just the most frequent and successful learning tips:
The visual learner
Do you need to see your teacher during lessons in order to fully understand the content of a lesson?
Do you prefer to sit at the front of the classroom to avoid visual obstructions (e.g. people's heads)?
Do you think in pictures and learn best from visual displays including: diagrams, illustrated text books, overhead transparencies, videos, flipcharts and hand-outs?
During a lecture or classroom discussion, do you prefer to take detailed notes to absorb the information?
!Learning Tip - you may benefit from taking part in traditional English lessons, but maybe private lessons would be better.
The auditory learner
Do you learn best through verbal lectures, discussions, talking things through and listening to what others have to say?
Do you interpret the underlying meanings of speech through listening to tone of voice, pitch, speed and other nuances?
Does written information have little meaning until you hear it?
!Learning Tip - you may benefit from listening to the radio or listening to text as you read it. You could try reading text aloud and using a tape recorder to play it back to yourself.
The Tactile/Kinesthetic learner
Do you learn best through a hands-on approach, actively exploring the physical world around you?
Do you find it hard to sit still for long periods?
Do you become distracted easily?
!Learning Tip - you may benefit from taking an active part in role plays or drama activities.
I saw that are almost all of the posts already commented (except the one from Mojca (there is no mistakes)) so I decided to write post except of the comment. I will write about pages where you can learn English ''free''. I saw many different pages and realized that some of them are very boring. On other pages you can learn a lot about English on interesting and a fun way. But you have to work every day and work hard if you want to learn a lot of English. For our class I think the most suitable page is for improving English. On this page there are some strategies how to improve your English : http://www.learnenglish.de/improvepage.htm
And here are few rules for improving English:
- Join an English course - a virtual one or a real one (and attend regularly).
- Do your homework.
- Read a book or a comic every month.
- Learn a new word every day.
- Visit an English speaking forum every day.
- Read a news article on the net every day.
- Do 10 minutes listening practice every day.
- Watch an English film at least once a month.
- Follow a soap, comedy or radio or TV drama.

This lesson started as usual. Of course the teacher was a bit late but we liked that. At first, the teacher handed us out our booklets which we have been doing for 2 weeks now. We write 10 words from our English book (Unit 4 and Unit 5) in the booklets each lesson, and use them in a sentence. Today we wrote the last 10 words, completing the 70 needed. After we have finished them we decorated the library a bit and gave the booklets to the teacher, who will grade them on thursday. Then we were planning to play and listen to music, but we didn't since nobody sent it to the teacher's e-mail. That is pretty much it from this English class.

Today we finished our booklets at the english class. Everyone should have 70 words by now, chosen at will from our English book - Unit 4 and Unit 5. Then we have used these words in sentences and written them in our notebooks as this helps us remember the words easier. We will later recieve a bonus grade of 25% from this booklet. This percentage consists of creativity (looks-10%), word selection (words we haven't known before-10%) and testing if we really understand these words-5%. Then we asked the teacher if there is anything missing in this bonus grade, which consists of homework, writing or commenting the blog, weekly writing on the blackboard and library. Each topic brings 25% and that way we can get a very good grade, which can rise our average and make our final grade better.

Today's lesson was very interesting, fun and different than others. We were working in groups of three. There were six tasks.
- On first one we had to create three riddles about different kind of commercialization. (e.g. It doesn't have mount, but it still tells you everything.)
- In task 2 we had to cast lots six words and then draw them (e.g. dreams, message in the bottle, TV..)
- Task 3 was the hardest on. There we had to choose 10 new nouns from UNIT3 and described them (e.g. cartoon= a TV show for children)
- Task 4 was similar than one before, but it was easier. We had to choose 10 new adjectives from UNIT3 and describe them. (e.g. lazy= is someone who doesn't want to work)
- In task 5 we wrote down 3 examples for showing our expiration and then described them. (e.g. Go out! = point index finger towards the door)
- And the last one was surprise for us. Time for grading.
HAVE A NICE DAY! :D

Hello!
Today in English lesson we have the time to read letters of English girls who had refractors
problems in love life...Those letters find in a textbook on the page 125 and 126. But then we
in groups of two or three would have to write three typical problems in teenage life. It was
fun.

Hello!
Today we started the lesson with talking in pairs about some sticky situations that can happen in friendships. Then we were listening the text in our course book (page 125). There were three letters, published in British teenagers" magazines. Young readers of such magazines often write letters to them in which they ask for advice about their problems. In first one, Cathy wrote about her friend, who betrayed her and embarrassed in front of a lovely boy. in the second letter, Belinda described her problem with her boyfriend. Namely she had a feeling that he became a different person (terrible temper, jealous, shouting...). And in the third letter one girl was asking if there is a chance to get pregnant from French kissing. Than we listened the responds from advisers who try to explain the situations and give the best solutions and advice. In task 2. we had to define if the words/expressions are similar in meaning or opposite (e.g. fall in love ≠ fall out of love ; at the moment = now ;...). In task 2a. we had to write what problems are mentioned in letters. And for the end we worked in groups. Our job was to describe one problem. This hour was very interesting for me, because these days people have a lot of problems and here i realised how to solved them :P

Today, I was picked for writing a blog abot today's class. At the begining of class we have talking about that if our parents ever said to us: ''You are too young for this film''. Then we were learning about second conditional (pogojnik za sedanjost op.p.)
| If- stavek | Glavni stavek |
| If+past simple | would+ infinitive |
| If you had TV in your room | You would watch it all time |

At the beginning of the class we checked our homework and some of us had to read it out loud.
Then the teacher got to an idea and we watched teletubbies:
After that we did some group work:
we made four groups of four and we had to make a play where we were the teletubbies. Two of the groups already already acted out their scene (but one of these two groups will play it again since they were laughing so hard that they couldn't do it very well) but than we ran out of time, so the other two groups will do it next time.
And on the end of course we chose the blogger, which is obviously me. :)

Today we had a very interesting lesson. We were talking about TV programs and kinds of TV programs (films, shows,…). I realy like the new unit, which is called Unit 3 communications. First we checked our homework. I think that only a few girls had homework and no one else. Then we started to work in pairs. Last thing we did was group work. We had to invent 4 new programs. We lacked some time so we only invented 1. We have a homework which is work book on page 98 and 99.
And that is all!

Hello!
So, the Health Unit is over. I think it was quite a success, especially judging on the essays that the students wrote in the test (if I'm wrong, please comment). No, I'm looking forward to the poster contest results. The posters are already exhibited, later in this month, I hope, we will distribute the voting leaflets among 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th graders and the teachers and then get some prizes (besides honor and praise) for the winners...
Finally, we started talking about something not related to health. Or is it?
Communications is the title of Unit 3 which we shall mostly study in groups. Every lesson I shall prepare a short group task that the students will have to do and hand in the results/works at the end of the lesson. The grade for this unit will consist 50 % of the work done in class and 50 % of the oral assessment.
Today we talked about TV and how parents and children cannot have a common TV set. I learned that most students have their own TV sets and they don't really watch that much TV (I guess they spend more time on FB and doing homeworks:)
For homework I gave the first two exercises in the WB (p. 96,97) because tomorrow in class groups will discuss and produce an ideal TV programme.
See you soon.

Hello. Today I have been selected as a last one to write our blog. Our school lesson was very interesting
and it was the last hour before the test. First we have been practicing how to write and pronounce
big numbers ( npr. New York has population of 7,330,000; Mount Everest is 8, 848 m high,...).
Then our teacher showed us the test from previous two years and we solved it together. The test
contained similar tasks to the ones we will be writing. However, if you happen to forget what we
are write:
UNIT 2
1. Reading comprehension ( food, health, sports) gap-fill, true - false - not given
2. Grammar + language is use - MC
3. Writing (200 words) -intro, -body, -concl.

The Arctic was the last zone on Earth populated with humans. There was settled the oldest ancestors of today's Inuit people. They came across the Bering bay, in that time the bay was maindland, then they went over Alaska and then to North. Because of the list (razsežna) and uninhabited tundra, neighborhood support among small groups of people was not possible.
Eskimos got their name from a North American Indian tribe and means eaters of raw meat. Eskimos call themselves Inuit, which means the right people. The Inuit people are known as nomadic, which means that they are without a permanent residence. They migrate in family communities and maintain themselves with hunting (mostly they fish)

Firstly we were talking about Friday and Saturday- 10.2 ; 11.2. Those
days were information days on high schools, where we will go at the
end of 9th grade. That will be our first important decision. Tham we
started new subject. We started talking about eskimos (eaters of raw
meat) or better Inuits. They dont like to be called Eskimos, but Inuits-
`Real people`. First we had to answer questions with: True or False
than we read text in textbook- page 74. It was very interestin and it
talked about how they lived. Now Inuits are progressive and don`t
live in igloos anymore but in good houses. Later we had to do some
questions about Inuits and each group had to ask 3 questions, and
all class was answering. 1 Group contained 2 students. Example for
questions, that u can answer in comment:
-Which is most valuble animal, that is hunted by Inuits?
- Sledge is pulled by who ?
- What are larger boats for hunting whales named ?
-Which animal do people know best in Antarktica?
And more of those questions...

QuizStar / Deadline 30th January!!!
Your presentations have been going on very well. A bit too well, maybe. It's hard to keep track. Many topics are very interesting and I hope we will be able to have some discussion as soon as the grades are in Lopolis.
I decided to extend the deadline for all quizzes until the 30th of January. On the last day of January you will all get the rounded grade for the Health Project (presentation grade + listening comprehension, i.e. quizzes grade). I hope you are enjoying the quizzes. If there are any problems do not hesitate to send me an e-mail (in English, if possible).
p.s.: Will somebody please remind me next time to draw the next blogger before everyone is out of the class. Much appreciated :)

Today we had first presentation. Jurij and I made a presentation of saunas. We had stage fright, so we were making mistakes at pronunciation, but we did all tasks before presentation (Quiz, links,…). Now I'll tell you something about saunas. Sauna is a small room or hut heated to around 80 degrees Celsius. Sauna room is very hot, so you start sweating, if you are in sauna. If you go to sauna you'll come out relaxed and stronger. We know minimum 4 Types of saunas: Smoke sauna, Wood stove sauna, Electric sauna and Infrared sauna. Sweating is good because it helps to body clean. Here is picture of finish wood stove sauna. Every second or third Finn have own sauna.Thursday, January 5, 2012
